When the cowboys hear the calves screaming and ran wolves off them. Both were alive when saved, one succumbed. The kids were riding that day. The only thing that has changed since then is that now they do not remove for stock killing no matter how bad it is.

This cow ran for the corrals and tried to pen herself, they pulled her calf and ate it and she eventually died as well. They just killed and ate the bull.
